Jordan's history has a very rich and ancient history. However, there is very little information about the foundation and history of Petra, because this ancient city has a history dating back to prehistoric times. Petra was an important commercial and cultural center in the ancient world and played a large role in Jordan's history.

Early Periods: History of Petra, BC. It dates back to the 4th century. During this period, the region of Petra was part of the Second Kingdom of Edom. Petra was located in a strategic location, especially at the intersection of caravan routes, and therefore became an important trading centre.

B.C. 4th Century: B.C. It is known that in the 4th century, Petra was captured by the Nabateans. During this period, Petra became the capital of the Nabatean Kingdom. The Nabateans ushered in the city's glorious period by largely building Petra and adding numerous monuments and structures to the city.
