Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Advisor to join our team at Horizon Horizon Polytechnic College. The Academic Advisor will be responsible for providing academic and career guidance to students, helping them achieve their educational goals and prepare for their future careers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in education and counseling, excellent communication skills, and a passion for helping students succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide academic advising to students, including course selection, degree planning, and academic progress monitoring
• Assist students in developing and achieving their academic and career goals
• Conduct one-on-one advising sessions with students to discuss their academic progress and address any concerns or challenges they may be facing
• Utilize a variety of resources, including academic assessments and career exploration tools, to help students make informed decisions about their academic and career paths
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement academic support programs and services for students
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records and documents related to academic advising
• Stay informed about university policies, procedures, and academic requirements to ensure accurate and timely advising
• Participate in student orientation and other campus events to promote academic advising services and support student success
• Provide referrals to campus resources and support services as needed, such as tutoring, counseling, and disability services
• Stay current on industry trends and best practices in academic advising and incorporate them into daily practices
• Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to academic advising and counseling

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or a related field; Master's degree preferred
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in academic advising or counseling in a higher education setting
• Knowledge of academic programs and requirements, as well as career development resources
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and colleagues
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage a large caseload of students
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and student information systems
• Familiarity with advising and career assessment tools and resources
• Experience working with diverse student populations and a commitment to inclusive practices
• Passion for helping students achieve their academic and career goals
