Job Title: Academic Advisor

Position Overview: As an Academic Advisor, you will play a crucial role in guiding and supporting students throughout their academic journey. You will work closely with students to provide academic guidance, recommend courses, and help them navigate their academic requirements. In this role, you will serve as a mentor, advocate, and resource for students, helping them to make informed decisions that align with their academic and career goals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide academic advising to students in-person, via email, and over the phone
• Assist students in developing academic plans that align with their personal and career goals
• Review and interpret academic policies, procedures, and requirements for students
• Recommend courses and assist students in developing course schedules
• Monitor students' academic progress and provide support and guidance to help them overcome any challenges
• Connect students with appropriate resources such as tutoring, study groups, and academic support services
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records and documentation
• Collaborate with faculty and other academic advisors to ensure consistency and accuracy in advising practices
• Participate in student orientation and other campus events to provide academic advising and support
• Stay current on industry trends, academic programs, and university policies to provide accurate and relevant information to students
• Provide exceptional customer service and maintain a positive and supportive relationship with students
• Adhere to all confidentiality and ethical standards in working with students
• Collaborate with other departments to help students navigate non-academic challenges or concerns
• Assist with retention efforts by identifying at-risk students and implementing interventions to support their academic success

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or a related field
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in academic advising or a similar role
• Knowledge of higher education policies, procedures, and regulations
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and student information systems
• Ability to work with diverse populations and foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for students
• Understanding of the academic needs and challenges of students
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
