Job Title: Herdsman/Herdswoman

Role Summary: We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Herdsman/Herdswoman to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the care and management of our livestock, ensuring their health and well-being. You will work closely with our farm manager to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of our farm.

Key Responsibilities:

• Daily care and management of our livestock, including feeding, watering, and monitoring their health and behavior
• Maintaining clean and safe living conditions for the animals, including cleaning and maintaining their living areas
• Monitoring and reporting any signs of illness or injury in the animals, and providing appropriate treatment as needed
• Assisting with breeding and birthing processes, including monitoring pregnant animals and assisting with deliveries
• Managing the movement of animals within the farm, including herding, loading, and unloading
• Keeping accurate records of animal health, breeding, and production
• Maintaining and repairing farm equipment and infrastructure as needed
• Following all safety protocols and ensuring the safety of all animals, yourself, and your colleagues
• Communicating effectively with the farm manager and other team members to ensure the smooth operation of the farm
• Staying up-to-date with industry trends and best practices to continuously improve the health and productivity of our livestock

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in agriculture or animal science is preferred
• Previous experience as a herdsman/herdswoman or in a similar role in a livestock farm
• Knowledge of animal behavior, health, and nutrition
• Ability to operate and maintain farm equipment and machinery
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make quick decisions in emergency situations
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Physical stamina and ability to work in various weather conditions
• Passion for animal welfare and commitment to providing the best care for our livestock
