Key Responsibilities:

Conduct research and gather information through interviews, observations, and various other sources to produce accurate and informative articles on education-related topics
Attend school board meetings, conferences, and other relevant events to gather first-hand information and report on important developments in the education sector
Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including educators, administrators, policymakers, and students, to stay updated on the latest developments and trends in education
Write and edit articles, features, and investigative pieces for print and digital publications, adhering to deadlines and maintaining high journalistic standards
Collaborate with photographers, videographers, and graphic designers to create multimedia content to accompany written pieces
Utilize social media platforms to promote articles, engage with the audience, and source story ideas
Monitor and analyze education-related data and statistics to identify emerging trends and potential story ideas
Pitch and develop original story ideas that go beyond daily news coverage and provide in-depth analysis and context to important education issues
Keep up-to-date with industry developments, trends, and best practices to continuously improve the quality and relevance of education coverage
Work closely with the editorial team to ensure consistency and accuracy in reporting and uphold the publication's journalistic standards
Adhere to ethical standards and guidelines set by the publication and the journalism profession

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field
Minimum of 3 years of experience as an education reporter or in a similar role
Proven track record of producing high-quality, accurate, and engaging content on education-related topics
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a strong command of AP style
Strong research and investigative skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Proficient in using various social media platforms for news gathering and audience engagement
In-depth knowledge of education policies, trends, and issues
Demonstrated ability to generate original story ideas and provide in-depth analysis and context to complex topics
