Responsibilities:

Attend court hearings, trials, and other legal proceedings to record verbatim transcripts of all spoken words and gestures
Ensure that all witnesses, attorneys, and judges are properly identified and their statements are accurately recorded
Utilize stenography machines, voice writing equipment, and other tools to capture and transcribe proceedings in real-time
Edit and proofread transcripts for accuracy, grammar, and punctuation
Provide copies of transcripts to all parties involved in the case, including judges, attorneys, and clients
Maintain accurate records of all transcripts and related documents
Collaborate with judges and attorneys to clarify any unclear or inaudible statements in the transcripts
Follow all ethical and confidentiality guidelines to protect the integrity of the legal process
Stay up-to-date with changes in legal terminology and procedures to ensure accurate transcription
Occasionally travel to different court locations as needed

Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification or training in court reporting preferred
Proven experience as a Court Reporter or in a similar role
Excellent typing and stenography skills
Proficient in the use of transcription equipment and software
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy under pressure
Exceptional listening and communication skills
Familiarity with legal terminology and procedures
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed
Strong work ethic and commitment to confidentiality and ethics in the legal profession
