Key Responsibilities:

Plan and coordinate the movement of trains and railcars in and out of the yard, taking into account safety protocols, schedules, and customer needs
Communicate with train crews, dispatchers, and other yard personnel to ensure the efficient and safe movement of trains and railcars
Direct and supervise the work of yard employees, including switch operators, carmen, and switchmen
Monitor train movements and communicate any potential issues or delays to relevant parties
Inspect trains and railcars for defects or damage and coordinate necessary repairs
Maintain accurate records of train movements, car and locomotive numbers, and other relevant information
Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies
Train and mentor new yard employees, providing guidance and support as needed
Collaborate with other departments, such as mechanical and engineering, to ensure smooth operations
Continuously look for ways to improve efficiency and productivity in the yard

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required, college degree preferred
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Yardmaster or in a similar role in the railroad industry
Strong knowledge of railroad operations, including train movements and safety protocols
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
Knowledge of relevant computer systems and software, such as yard management systems and Microsoft Office
Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Must pass a background check and drug screening
