Position: Fishery Research Scientist

Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Fishery Research Scientist to join our team. As a Fishery Research Scientist, you will be responsible for conducting research and developing scientific solutions to improve the management and sustainability of fish populations. You will play a crucial role in the conservation and management of our ocean resources, working to ensure the long-term viability of our fisheries.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct research on fish populations, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation
• Design and implement experiments to study fish behavior, physiology, and genetics
• Develop and implement fishery management strategies based on research findings
• Collaborate with other scientists, government agencies, and stakeholders to share knowledge and develop solutions
• Publish research findings in scientific journals and present at conferences
• Use advanced statistical and modeling techniques to analyze data and make predictions about fish populations
• Stay up-to-date with current research and industry trends in fisheries management and contribute to the development of new technologies and methods
• Participate in field work and data collection on research vessels and in laboratory settings
• Mentor and supervise junior staff, including technicians and interns

Qualifications:

• PhD in Fisheries Science, Marine Biology, or related field
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in fisheries research and management
• Strong background in statistical analysis and modeling
• Extensive knowledge of fish biology, behavior, and ecology
• Experience with fishery stock assessments and data collection techniques
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
• Proficiency in data analysis software and programming languages
• Willingness to work in a variety of environments, including in the field and on research vessels
• Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively
