Meta just announced Aria Gen 2 - the next generation of its smart research glasses.
- It helps people who are blind or have low vision navigate indoor spaces more easily.
These glasses are designed for machine perception, AI, robotics, and accessibility research.
Compared to the first version, Aria Gen 2 includes:
- Advanced sensors like eye tracking, spatial microphones, and heart rate monitoring.
- On-device AI processing for SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping), speech recognition, and hand tracking.
- Lightweight design with all-day usability (6-8 hours of battery life).
Meta is collaborating with Envision, a company focused on assistive technology for blind and low-vision individuals.
Envision is integrating Ally AI, a real-time assistant that provides voice guidance, helping users move through spaces with more confidence. Spatial audio and SLAM technology also work together to detect obstacles, map surroundings, and create a more intuitive navigation experience.
This is AI moving beyond chatbots and virtual assistants. It’s making a real impact, improving accessibility, and changing lives in ways that actually matter
