I am a Design for Manufacturing Engineer with experience in Plastic Injection Moulded Parts, Carbon Fiber composites and Metal Pressed components. I am good at assessing the needs and delivering the solutions, whether it is hands-on or using the help of my team and negotiating the time needed to perform the tasks in order to meet deadlines. I pride myself on my "lead-by-doing" attitude and appreciate and try to create a healthy atmosphere where my team and I can be creative to deliver adequate results. I have been a Lead Designer for many projects, sometimes working autonomously being responsible for my own design decisions and sometimes having the the help of other engineers. A highlight in my career was being the Design Manager for a team of 5-6 CAD engineers developing the interior side and rear trim for a Peugeot project. The following is a brief description of the tasks I used to perform and later on direct as team leader:
• Component design with 3D CAD software (with robust tree structure for efficient editing)
• Development of the product from initial A-surfaces stage,
• Surface split,
• Draft analysis,
• Material considerations (heat, weight, stiffness, squeak and rattle ... ),
• Tooling directions depending
Leading the development and design of the interior trim of a 30 ton electric powered heavy duty dozer. I proposed concept surfaces to the styling responsible and modeled some myself,I also developed and modeled the styling surfaces then into feasible engineering solids for the entire cabin. Including supporting plates to fasten the trims all over the cabin. I developed about 40 parts including HVAC hose adaptors and outlet vent interfaces, packaged electrical wiring, solved ergonomic issues for the operator to properly reach the elements surrounding the seat (adjustable touchscreen, comfortable arm rest, 3 joysticks, pedals). The first prototype was physically built without a prior virtual prototype. First parts fabricated to build the first functioning machine and obtain data. About 15 automotive design engineers and in less than 6 months to create the whole machine.
(Thru IBO Consulting I was assigned to help out at EDAG for a McLaren project) Carbon fiber modeling with manufacturing feasibility: The final 3D model included the required geometry to manufacture the mold (with extended boundaries, trimming cutout lines, inserts, caul plate areas, etc ... ). A great deal of collaboration with Carbon Fiber experts was needed since the technology is constantly developing.
Designing and modeling a feasible b-side geometry for the front bumper and splitter. The splitter modeled for plastic and carbon fiber fabrication processes and adapting and locating onto the bumper: -Concept definition with master sections. -Locating strategy. -Studio surfaces feedback until achieving an acceptable feasible geometry. -Package environment to fit required elements like reflectors, PDC cameras, lights, harness, etc. - GDnT annotations for adequate manufacturing and assembling.
CAD Working with a team of 5-6 CAD engineers. The parts to develop were: Plastic moldings for Scuff plates,A B and C pillars, Rear Quarter and Tailgate trim parts. -Concept definition
-Package studies -Master Sections -Initial feasibility assessment -Parts locating strategies and tolerance considerations -Gap and flush definition.
Developing hardware parts (in plastic and metal materials, cable channels, HV Cable clamps, grommets) to guarantee the correct attachment of the cables to different car platforms. Attending "Block" meetings regularly for correct integration throughout different platforms. Brainstorming with engineers from different fields: assembly line, high voltage engineers, electrical distribution system concept, finite element analysis. Usual tasks: -Packaging studies -Concept preliminary design -Detailed design with attachment points -Detailed tooling feasibility design. -Static analysis on Catia CAE workbench for weight reduction. -Part design refinement after CAE analysis -CAD development towards further costs reduction -Prototypes. Functioning for Prototype build. All driven and organized through the A.R.T. workflow managing system.
Seating engineering. Support on the aspect of the design and development of the seats on the 2nd row for Tesla Model X. Plastic garnishments and trim attached on the seat to cover the posts, rear toe kick area, etc. Toe kick support steel wires, seat recline spring pusher (mechanism analysis to improve the spring preload (3d modeling and worst case FEA analysis,@ 800N, 14% error and POM ). Tolerance stack ups to analyze and modify ongoing used parts (seat post and mechanism covers). GDnT creation to control parts according to mechanical requirements and fabricating process feasibility. Basic seat folding mechanism simulation. I assisted, collaborated and supported on parts and mechanisms involving plastics and metals all with their particular problem-solution cases (tooling directions, fabrication processes ... ), CAE analysis and iterative modeling, GDnT on parts for checking fixtures purposes, 3D printing prototypes for less than a week lead time on part modeling and development.
Design and development of parts on the front center console including plastic injection molded parts as well as aluminium and steel for trim and structural purposes respectively. (For Emmerald Automotive's next London Taxi)
